Getting Health Insurance Quotes Online – Worth It?

In today's fiercely competitive health insurance industry, many companies are taking advantage of technology to increase public awareness of their offers. One such practice is making insurance quotes available online, allowing potential customers to compare prices, and coverage, at their leisure. This is quite attractive to people nowadays who are becoming more, and more, accustomed to the ease of carrying out tasks from the comfort of their homes.

There are a lot of benefits to getting your quotes online. You save time, effort to go to each individual company to find out what they offer and have an easier time comparing offers, from the comfort of home, on your computer. It may also help that there won’t be a determined salesperson breathing down your neck trying to brainwash you into buying their coverage.

While these advantages are considerable, there is another side to this coin. For one, online quotes can be unreliable and misleading. It is far too easy for a company to distract you with an attractive low figure - keeping your eyes away from the fine print that specifies a great many exclusions, incidents not covered by the policy, among other clauses they wouldn't like you to notice. While not all companies do this, and a great many are reputable in their online representation, the reality is that the dishonest companies will seem more attractive online, due to their shady practices.

Also, when people answer questionnaires, on companies' websites, to get their quotes, they may get an incorrect figure (not due to company dishonesty) but, rather, due to errors in answering some of the questions. These will come up when the actual purchase is being done and may change the appropriate choice of company, by which time it's pretty much too late. This might be avoidable with care taken to answer the questions with 100 % accuracy but some errors are still likely to occur - particularly in less educated people who may misunderstand the questions asked, which can sometimes be quite complex.

All in all, getting you health insurance quotes online can be very useful but, perhaps, not all reliance should be placed on it. If you do, however, decide to make your decision based on online quotes, be very careful to answer all the questions as accurately as possible. Probably, more importantly, watch for little fine print on deals that seem too good to be true – they often are.
